[In honor of Spirit of Justice's localized release, a festival is happening in Japanifornia! (More deets about the setting on the linked page.) Not that the inhabitants know what the festival's origin is. It's simply known as the annual Spirit of Justice Festival, which they can only assume has to do with celebrating justice, spirits or a mixture of both. Regardless, it lasts a whole week and there's a lot to do throughout the city.

There are stage shows all across the city's parks, from Steel Samurai to Pink Princess to the Plumed Punisher. Come get your Samurai Dogs, killer-shaped ice cream, magatah'man or swiss rolls while you watch! The Berry Bootleg Circus is in town as well! (Not to be confused with the Berry Big Circus.) Weirdos in Blue Badger outfits are marching the streets, handing out balloons to kids. Gavinners music blares from speakers mounted to buildings. For the week of the festival only, there's a special sale happening in the furniture stores: 50% off all traditional American kotatsus! What a deal!

At night time, the sky lights up with fireworks for roughly half an hour. Funnily enough, the colorful explosions take the shapes of attorney badges, prosecutor badges and magatamas. Aaah, what a delightful time of the year.]

[ Her smile just gets bigger at the look her throws in her direction. ]

Good to know, because I'm going to be suing you for defamation of character! Guess whose going to owe who $300,000,000? Keep that money warm for me, Mr. Retinz!

[ She's not going to really, of course. But it doesn't mean she can't put the idea into that dumb head of his. ]

By the way, the media from the trial gave me so much publicity that my shows are sold out for the next six months. Thanks for that!

[That defamation of character thing? Not a problem. His shady defense attorney can take care of that one too. If she does go through with something like that, he's confident he'll end up having to pay her like five dollars. No biggie.

The second thing earns the tiniest of cringes, though. GRAMAAARYEEE...!!! He'll still act like a petty little douche, but his fingers sure are gripping his phone a bit tighter.]

Oh, good. Everyone wants to see what a big sham you are up close. Who can blame them? That sort of lousy magic only comes along once in a lifetime.

[ He'll have to excuse Trucy as she starts laughing out loud, before she quickly looks back up to him, forcing her laughter into quiet snickers instead. ]

Nope, they just want to see what a real magician can do! My magic is the real deal, you know. No gimmicks... oh, but wait, I can't say that can I? That's Mr. Reuse's line! My bad. Anyways, think what you want about my magic, you'll have a long time to think about it in jail.

[Roger scoffs so loudly that Trucy can probably hear it all the way where she's standing.]

Leave it to a Gramarye to steal even something as immaterial as a catchphrase. You'll take anything that's not nailed down, won't you? Not even your magic is original. Where would you be without your dear grandpapa's secrets?

[magicpanchira]

[ Trucy doesn't even bother to look up this time, instead allowing her pleased smile to grow in amusement. ]

Still jealous, I see. Well, I suppose green is one of your signature colors, after all.

[revengefire]

[Aaand there it is, the last straw. He can't come up with a petty comeback to that- he doesn't even want to bother. The insult is just too great.

His teeth grit and two seconds later, the cellphone bursts into flames in the palm of his hand.]

[ Trucy watches, unimpressed, before she shrugs and makes her way over. Time to talk like normal people! ]

Wow, that was a little overkill, don't you think? You could have at least made it explode into fireworks or something, ypu know.

[revengefire]

[What- Fireworks- Please. As if any magician could pull that one off. He throws what's left of his phone to the ground and straightens himself up, leering at Trucy from behind his shades.]

Excuse me if I don't take advice from rookies like yourself.

[ She shrugs again and smiles brightly. ]

I guess it's true... you really can't teach an old dog new tricks.

[As if to emphasize his point, he holds out his hand, clenches his fist aaand... when he uncurls it again, there's a crisp hundred dollar bill between each of his fingers.]

[ Trucy snatches one of his twenties and crumples it up, before tossing it into her Magic Panties -- when did she bring those out?? -- all with a straight face.

A few moments later, twentry dollars in quarters literally spews out of them like a fountain. She catches them in one smooth stack, before handing them over to Roger. ]

You looked like you needed these. You're welcome.

[MOTHERF-

He is not accepting petty change from Trucy Wright of all people! He hasn't sunk quite that low yet! The rest of the dollar bills disappear with another clench of the hand and the next moment, he's holding the ace of spades.]

I don't need anything from you- least of all money. [SAYS THE GUY WHO TRIED TO CON HER OUT OF THREE MILLION BUCKS.....]

[magicpanchira]

[ She's pretty sure he's gone daft at this point due to his old age... ]

Okay, but this isn't my money. It's yours... although I can keep it if you don't really want it back.

[hangloose]

[Geez Trucy, he didn't literally mean she's giving him money. It's more that she's offering him a helping hand in the form of change.]

Feh. I can spare a twenty. Knock yourself out with it.

Maybe I'll use it to tip the other magicians over there in your name! What a kind, generous man you are.

[ uGH. Trucy's not going to keep your gross money. Yawning, she waves him off. ]

Anyways, ypu must he so busy right now, I suppose I'll leave you be.

Traipsing off with your tail between your legs? Go on, then. Looking at your face was starting to make me sick anyway.

[Was it worth it... What a ridiculous question. Damn easy for her to ask, isn't it? He didn't achieve his ultimate goal and only lost things along the way, so of course it wasn't worth it- yet.]

[ Trucy heaves a sigh. This guy really is a total nutcase... ]

You know, it's really sad. You were really talented, you could have pulled yourself back up. Things didn't have to be like this... you killed an innocent person and ruined your entire future, while taking away his. You tried to ruin mine, and for what? It didn't do you any good. All that talent, wasted. What a shame.

[Those words are like a slap to the face. Trucy can try all she wants to be nice, but all of Roger's resentment's just going to twist it and turn it into something ugly.]

Don't talk to me about wasted talent! Not when it was your grandfather who took it all away! Don't you understand how hot the Troupe Gramarye name is in the magician world? How many people do you think still wanted to deal with the Great Mr. Reus after he got the boot? [... Manov was one of the select few, actually.] I could've recovered if your grandpapa hadn't thrown me out like yesterday's trash and made a public spectacle out of it...!

[ Trucy shakes her head, because the more he speaks, the sadder it really becomes. He just doesn't get it. He's too consumed with his hatred, unfortunately. ]

Grandpa Magnifi started it, yeah, that's undeniable. But you could have risen above that... the name Gramarye is just that, a name. Names aren't everything -- you had a LOT of talent, you were just too angry and full of hate to use it to make a comeback. I believe very much you could have been something great, and I think, had it not been for the fact that you murdered someone? You still were.

[That's... almost touching. If only it weren't so patronizing at the same time. Roger tisks loudly and burns the ace of spades between his fingers, then raises a hand to his hat.]

I shouldn't expect a naive child like you to understand the cruel underbelly of showbiz. You keep trying to revive the Gramarye legacy, you'll find out the hard way just how little meaning something like talent has, believe you me.

[ At the very least, she can humor him. Besides, she's genuinely interested in what he's got to say, so all trolling aside, he's got her full attention now. ]

Why do you say that, Mr. Retinz? And how do you know I wouldn't understand it? I'll never give up on my dream, no matter what's thrown at me, you know... and someone like you should have never given up, either.
